This bill proposes to amend Chapter 90 of the Massachusetts General Laws to allow the Registrar of Motor Vehicles, the state agency responsible for vehicle registration, to issue special distinctive firefighter motorcycle license plates. These plates would be available to current members of any municipal fire department and those retired in good standing, for use on their privately owned motorcycles. To obtain these plates, applicants must provide certification from their fire department head confirming their membership status. In addition to the standard registration fee, there will be an extra ten-dollar fee for the issuance and renewal of these firefighter plates, with the collected funds going to the Massachusetts Firefighters Academy Trust Fund, which supports training for firefighters.
