This bill amends existing Massachusetts law regarding sexually violent predators, which are individuals determined by a board or who meet specific criteria, including having a mental abnormality or personality disorder that makes them likely to commit predatory sexually violent offenses, or who have been convicted of certain sex offenses involving children or sexually violent offenses and classified at a level 3. The bill also requires offenders deemed sexually violent predators to appear in person every 90 days at their local police department to verify their registration information, in addition to annual verification. Furthermore, it expands the authority to refer cases to the Board's General Counsel or their designee and mandates an annual audit of the Sex Offender Registry Board's operations by the auditor of the commonwealth, covering aspects like case prioritization, record-keeping, and adjudication processes, though this audit requirement is set to expire on January 1, 2021.
