This bill requires that when a municipality, the commonwealth, or another entity undertakes a significant project like repairing or paving a public road, or installing or replacing underground water, sewer, or electrical lines that might expose natural gas infrastructure, they must notify the local gas company. The gas company will then be responsible for surveying the project area for gas leaks and must repair all identified leaks within 12 months of classification, with the exception of "Grade 1 leaks" (which are the most serious and require immediate attention) that must be fixed right away. The gas company will also provide the responsible entity with a schedule for these repairs.
