This bill mandates the Juvenile Court, in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Department of Youth Services (DYS), to create a pilot program aimed at assisting young people who are on their own and lack a guardian. This program will develop guidelines for these youth to officially declare themselves as unaccompanied and without a guardian, and will assess their eligibility for social services, state support, and housing, while also considering other essential needs. A key aspect of this pilot program is its special attention to the unique challenges faced by youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+).
