This bill amends existing law concerning public employees who are retirees and their health insurance options related to Medicare. Specifically, it clarifies that retirees can transfer to "Medicare Part A, Part B, or a Medicare supplement health plan," which are different components of the federal Medicare program that provides health insurance for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as younger people with certain disabilities. The bill also explicitly includes "Part B" within the definition of Medicare Part A coverage for these purposes and adds language to subsection (c) of the relevant law to clarify that a retiree or their spouse may not be required to continue family coverage for a dependent in a non-Medicare health plan offered by a governmental unit if they are transferring to a Medicare health plan.
