This bill establishes a Division of Privacy Protection within the office of consumer affairs and business regulation, which will create a centralized system to log identity fraud complaints, send these complaints to local law enforcement, and develop rules for handling identity fraud cases, all in consultation with the attorney general. Additionally, the bill amends existing law to require that if an identity fraud crime is reported in a location different from where the victim lives, the law enforcement agency receiving the report must send it to the agency in the victim's home jurisdiction, which will then investigate the case until the perpetrator is caught.
