This bill amends Chapter 164 of the General Laws by adding a new section that requires distribution companies (companies that deliver electricity) and telephone companies to remove old poles within 90 days after installing new ones, including transferring all wires and making necessary repairs. If they fail to do so, they will be fined $200 per day for every day the old pole remains after the 90-day period, payable to the municipality where the pole is located. However, for approved commercial or industrial construction projects expected to take over a year, this deadline is extended to six months, with the same daily fine applying if the removal and related work are not completed within that extended timeframe.
