This bill requires school districts and charter schools to notify parents or guardians about upcoming State assessments, which are tests mandated by state or federal law for specific grade levels or subjects, and commercially-developed standardized assessments, which are tests required by the state or district and administered to all students in a grade, developed and scored by an outside entity. This notification must be provided by October 1st of each school year, or within 30 days if an additional standardized test is decided upon later, and must include details such as the subject, grade levels, dates, time allotted, available accommodations, how to access sample questions and results, and whether the test is mandated by the state or federal government. The bill also mandates that the State Commissioner of Education will provide a model document for these notifications and ensure the information is available in parents' native languages to the greatest extent possible, and that this information will also be presented at public meetings where School Performance Reports are discussed.
