This bill requires school districts and charter schools to notify parents or guardians about upcoming State assessments, which are tests mandated by state or federal law for specific grade levels or subjects, and commercially-developed standardized assessments, which are tests administered by the school that require all students in a grade to answer similar questions and are developed by an outside contractor. This notification must be provided by October 1st of each school year, or within 30 days if an additional assessment is decided upon later, and must include details such as the subject, grade levels, dates, time allotted, available accommodations, how to access sample questions and results, and whether the assessment is required by the state or federal government. The state's commissioner will provide a model document for this purpose, and the information should be provided in parents' native languages to the greatest extent possible, and also be available at board of education meetings where School Performance Reports are presented.
