This bill establishes an Eastern Regional Commission on the Status of Women, which will consist of nine volunteer members appointed by the existing Commission on the Status of Women. This new commission will focus on studying issues affecting women in "Eastern Regional communities," defined as municipalities within Norfolk and Suffolk counties, and will report its findings and recommend solutions annually to the state-level Commission on the Status of Women. Members will serve three-year terms, with initial appointments staggered, and will be eligible for reappointment for a maximum of two consecutive terms, with a one-year break required before reapplying. The commission will solicit nominations through an open application process, aiming for diverse representation from the specified counties, and will elect its own officers. It is mandated to meet at least four times a year, can accept donations and grants, and has the authority to utilize volunteer services, recommend policies to state and local agencies, establish its own governance rules, hold public meetings, and take other necessary actions to fulfill its purpose.
