This bill authorizes the town of Middlefield to allow Police Chief Thomas Austin to continue serving in his position until September 27, 2019, or until he retires or is removed from duty by the Select Board, as long as he is mentally and physically capable of performing his duties, with the Select Board having the option to require a medical examination at their expense to determine his capability. Importantly, no further deductions will be made from his salary for retirement contributions after September 27, 2016, and upon retirement, he will receive a retirement allowance based on what he would have been entitled to had he retired on that date, and he will still be subject to rules regarding hours worked and payments to retired town employees.
