This bill amends Chapter 146 of the General Laws by adding a new section that exempts certain individuals from the usual sprinkler fitter examining and licensing requirements. Specifically, individuals who are regularly employed by a public water system, or by utility contractors approved to work for that system, will not need a sprinkler fitter's license when performing work on hydrants and their connected pipes and valves. This exemption applies to the emergency installation and repair, as well as the testing and maintenance of these specific components within the public water system's jurisdiction, but it explicitly excludes any work on other parts of a fire protection sprinkler system. The department is authorized to create rules to implement this exemption.
