Bill Summary
A bill to exclude power supply circuits, drivers, and devices designed to be connected to, and power, light-emitting diodes or organic light-emitting diodes providing illumination or ceiling fans using direct current motors from energy conservation standards for external power supplies. This bill amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to exclude from energy conservation standards for external power supplies any power supply circuit, driver, or device designed to power certain light-emitting diodes or to power ceiling fans using direct current motors. The Department of Energy may prescribe energy conservation standards for that equipment no earlier than one year after the date on which a test procedure has been prescribed by using its authority to improve the energy efficiency of electric motors and pumps and other industrial equipment.
AI Summary
This bill, amending the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, aims to exclude certain power supply components from existing energy conservation standards for external power supplies. Specifically, it exempts power supply circuits, drivers, and devices that are exclusively designed to power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) used for illumination, as well as those powering ceiling fans that use direct current (DC) motors. The bill clarifies that the Department of Energy (DOE) can only establish new energy conservation standards for this excluded equipment no sooner than one year after a test procedure for it has been developed, and this would be done using the DOE's authority to improve the efficiency of industrial equipment like electric motors and pumps.
