This bill, known as the EPS Improvement Act of 2016, amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to exclude certain power supply components from energy conservation standards. Specifically, power supply circuits, drivers, or devices designed exclusively to power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) that provide illumination, as well as those powering ceiling fans with direct current motors, will no longer be subject to these standards. The Department of Energy (DOE) can only establish energy conservation standards for these specific lighting power supply circuits, drivers, or devices no earlier than one year after a test procedure has been created, and they must use their existing authority to improve the energy efficiency of industrial equipment like electric motors and pumps. The bill also makes technical corrections to references within the Energy Policy and Conservation Act.
