This Joint Resolution designates March of each year as "Fibromuscular Dysplasia Awareness Month" in New Jersey to increase public and medical understanding of Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD), a disease characterized by abnormal cell growth in artery walls that can cause narrowing, aneurysms, and tears, and which, though considered rare, may be under-diagnosed and disproportionately affects women, with no known cause or cure and often leading to diagnostic delays and isolation for patients and their families. The resolution also requests the Governor to issue an annual proclamation encouraging appropriate activities and programs to observe this month, recognizing the efforts of organizations like the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America (FMDSA) in raising awareness and supporting research.
