This bill aims to improve early literacy and reading proficiency in Florida. It requires the Just Read, Florida! Office to provide training on effective research-based reading instructional strategies and interventions for voluntary prekindergarten through grade 3 teachers, reading coaches, and school principals. The bill also requires prekindergarten providers to provide parents with pre- and post-assessment results and report these results at the aggregate level. Additionally, the bill allows children at risk of not meeting performance standards to reenroll in the voluntary prekindergarten program, and it modifies the reporting requirements for the research-based reading instruction allocation. The bill also appropriates $10 million to the Department of Education for the development of the required training.
