This bill amends various chapters of the Massachusetts General Laws to require health insurers, health plans, and health maintenance organizations (hereinafter "health plans") to provide coverage for long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs). Specifically, the bill mandates that effective January 1, 2018, the insertion and removal of LARCs, whether provided in an inpatient or outpatient setting, shall each be reimbursed separately from other services, and the maximum allowed reimbursement rate to providers for insertion or removal of LARCs shall be increased by no less than $299. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Public Health to develop and implement a training program to expand the number of clinicians and practices equipped to provide LARCs. Finally, the bill specifies that beginning on January 1, 2018, postpartum visits shall be billed separately from prenatal care and childbirth.
