This bill establishes a special task force to conduct an investigation and study concerning the optimal and safe use of computed tomography (CT) scans. The task force will consist of state legislators, state officials, radiologists, CT technicians, representatives of CT equipment manufacturers, and a patient advocacy organization representative. The task force will make recommendations on optimal CT scan dosages, provide guidance on radiation dose optimization, design an education curriculum on CT scan practices, evaluate certification and licensure requirements for medical professionals, develop a plan to reduce radiation exposure while optimizing image quality, and make recommendations on oversight by the radiation control program or other agency. The task force will review information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, professional medical organizations, and the CT manufacturing sector, and submit a report by December 31, 2018.
