Bill Summary
Anti-Border Corruption Reauthorization Act of 2017 (Sec. 2) This bill amends the Anti-Border Corruption Act of 2010 to expand the categories of applicants for law enforcement positions with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for whom polygraph examinations may be waived. (Sec. 3) An applicant who receives such a waiver and who holds a Tier 4 background investigation shall be subject to a Tier 5 background investigation. The CBP may administer a polygraph examination to an applicant for a law enforcement position who received a waiver if the CBP determines, based on information discovered prior to the completion of a background investigation, that a polygraph is necessary to make a final determination with respect to the suitability of the individual for the position.
AI Summary
This bill amends the Anti-Border Corruption Act of 2010 to expand the categories of applicants for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) law enforcement positions who may be eligible for a waiver of the polygraph examination requirement. The bill allows the CBP Commissioner to waive the polygraph requirement for certain current state/local law enforcement officers, federal law enforcement officers, and members of the armed forces/veterans with specific qualifications. Any applicant who receives such a waiver and holds a Tier 4 background investigation must undergo a more comprehensive Tier 5 investigation. The CBP Commissioner may also administer a polygraph examination to a waiver recipient if information is discovered that raises suitability concerns prior to completing the background investigation.
