Every Prescription Conveyed Securely Act This bill generally requires, with specified exceptions, electronic prescribing under the Medicare prescription drug benefit with respect to covered drugs that are controlled substances.

AI Summary

This bill generally requires, with some exceptions, electronic prescribing under the Medicare prescription drug benefit (Part D) for covered drugs that are controlled substances. The bill provides the Secretary of Health and Human Services the authority to specify circumstances in which the requirement may be waived, such as in cases of economic hardship, technological limitations, or when obtaining the prescription electronically would adversely impact the patient's medical condition. The bill also clarifies that prescription drug plan sponsors, Medicare Advantage organizations, and pharmacists are not required to verify whether a practitioner has received a waiver from the electronic prescribing requirement.
