SOS Campus Act Survivor Outreach and Support Campus Act

AI Summary

This bill, known as the Survivor Outreach and Support Campus Act or the SOS Campus Act, amends the Higher Education Act of 1965 to require institutions of higher education that receive federal financial assistance to designate an independent advocate for campus sexual assault prevention and response. The advocate, who must have experience and demonstrated ability to effectively provide sexual assault victim services, will represent the interests of student victims, even when in conflict with the institution. The advocate will ensure that victims receive various support services, guide them through reporting and administrative processes, and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the victim and any witness. The bill also requires the advocate to conduct a public information campaign to inform students about their services.
