This bill, the Gold Star Family Support and Installation Access Act of 2017, aims to provide several key provisions: 1. It requires the Secretary of the military to issue a standardized "Gold Star Installation Access Card" to the surviving spouse and dependent children of a deceased member of the Armed Forces, to facilitate their access to military installations for attending memorial events, visiting gravesites, and obtaining eligible services and benefits. 2. It authorizes the Secretary to also provide the Gold Star Installation Access Card to other next of kin of the deceased member, at the Secretary's discretion. 3. It ensures that the Gold Star Installation Access Card issued by one military service will be accepted for access to installations of other military services. 4. It allows the Secretary to take measures to prevent fraud in the use of the Access Card and to limit access to only those areas that provide the eligible services and benefits. 5. It extends commissary and exchange (MWR retail facilities) benefits to a remarried surviving spouse who has guardianship of the deceased member's dependent children, even if the spouse has remarried.
