Bill Summary
This bill requires any person who holds a license to practice cosmetology and hairstyling, barbering, beauty culture, manicuring, or skin care specialty to complete one hour of domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education prior to initial licensure and prior to any subsequent licensure renewal. The bill also requires the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling to establish criteria and standards for domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education for registered students of a licensed school of cosmetology and hairstyling and practicing licensees. The board will prescribe regulations regarding the requirements for, and the approval of providers of, domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education. Pursuant to the provisions of the bill, a practicing licensee or the practicing licensee's employer, whether during the period of initial licensure or during any biennial renewal period, will not be civilly or criminally liable for acting in good faith or failing to act on information obtained during the course of employment concerning potential domestic violence or sexual assault.
