Bill Summary
Abuse Deterrent Access Act of 2018
AI Summary
This bill directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct a study and submit a report to Congress on the barriers to accessing abuse-deterrent opioid formulations for individuals enrolled in Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) or Part D (prescription drug) plans. The study will examine factors such as cost-sharing tiers, fail-first requirements, pricing, and prior authorization requirements that may be preventing individuals with chronic pain from accessing these abuse-deterrent opioid formulations. Abuse-deterrent opioid formulations refer to opioids that have features designed to prevent abuse, such as physical or chemical barriers, agonist or antagonist combinations, aversion properties, or delivery system mechanisms.
