This bill amends a 2016 law to require certain school security measures to be incorporated into all new public school construction and existing public school buildings, rather than only under certain conditions. The key provisions include: one-way driveways leading to a visitor parking area, an access control system with remote unlocking features and cameras at all entrances, a guard shack and gate on the school campus, and secure vestibules at the main entrance. The bill also requires the adoption of certain school security policies and procedures. The Commissioner of Education, in consultation with the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, can revise the architectural design and security standards as needed to reflect new recommendations or best practices.
