This bill, the American Border Act, would: - Strengthen border security infrastructure and technology, including physical barriers, tactical infrastructure, and surveillance technology along the U.S. southern and northern borders. It would require the deployment of the most practical and effective barriers and technology to achieve situational awareness and operational control of the borders. - Increase personnel for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, including additional Border Patrol agents, CBP officers, Air and Marine Operations agents, K-9 units, and agriculture specialists, as well as provide retention incentives for CBP employees. - Establish new programs like the Integrated Border Enforcement Team, the Biometric Identification Transnational Migration Alert Program, and Operation Stonegarden to enhance border security coordination and operations. - Provide funding of over $23 billion, including $16.6 billion for a border wall system and $6.8 billion for other border security infrastructure, technology, and operations. - Prohibit interference with U.S. Customs and Border Protection activities on federal lands and empower the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive certain environmental and other laws to expedite border security construction and operations.
