This bill gives state DOTs the flexibility to use Highway Safety Improvement Program Dollars (HSIP) as the “local match” under the Transportation Alternatives program (TAP)

The bill requires state departments of transportation (DOT) to designate an SRTS program coordinator. States with coordinators are more likely fund SRTS projects.

The bill would require states to direct a portion of their federal highway funding toward the creation of a Complete Streets Program. The bill would also require that future construction projects on public roads are designed for the safety of all its road users.

This bill establishes goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle miles traveled on public roads; it also prioritizes federal investments in walking, biking, and transit infrastructure that reduce emissions, improve safety and make travel more affordable.

This bill would require large trucks to address underride fatalities, including requiring sideguards. This is the first time legislation has addressed VRU in underride crashes
