This bill establishes merit time allowance credits and certain administrative privileges credits for local correctional facilities in New York. Eligible inmates serving one year or less or detained pending trial can accrue credits for participating in educational, vocational, work, or rehabilitation programs. These credits can reduce the inmate's time served. The bill also allows for the forfeiture of credits for bad behavior and the accrual of administrative privileges credits for ineligible inmates. Additionally, the bill amends the Penal Law to include these merit time allowance credits as part of the jail time credited towards an inmate's sentence.
