This bill establishes a task force on safety in school transportation to review and promote such safety. The task force will consist of 18 members appointed by the Governor, the Senate President, and the Assembly Speaker, as well as representatives from the Departments of Education, Transportation, and Motor Vehicles. The task force will study and make recommendations on various aspects of school bus safety, including existing laws and regulations, the need for biannual safety reviews, strategies to improve pedestrian safety for students walking to and from school, and protocols for school bus drivers and aides. The task force will also develop a plan to implement any recommended safety measures and determine if additional public education programs are needed. The task force will provide a final report with its findings and recommendations by December 31, 2022.
