This bill establishes a task force on safety in school transportation to review and promote such safety. The task force will consist of 18 members appointed by the Governor, the Senate President, and the Assembly Speaker, as well as representatives from the Departments of Education, Transportation, and Motor Vehicles. The task force will study and make recommendations on various aspects of school bus and student pedestrian safety, including existing laws and programs, the need for biannual safety reviews, phasing in safety measures, school bus stop designations, safety protocols for drivers and aides, preventing illegal passing of school buses, and public education programs. The task force will provide a final report of its findings and recommendations by December 31, 2022.
