This bill establishes the New York State Muslim American Advisory Council, which will advise the legislature on ways to advance the role and civic participation of Muslim Americans in New York. The Council will recommend strategies to better integrate Muslims socially, educationally, culturally, and economically, and will facilitate relationship-building in the Muslim community. The Council will consist of 10 members, with representatives from community-based/faith-based organizations, as well as members appointed by the state legislature and the governor. The Council will meet regularly and present an annual report to the legislature on their findings and recommendations regarding the implementation of state programs and services affecting Muslim Americans.
