This bill establishes the New York State Muslim American Advisory Council, which will advise the legislature on ways to advance the role and civic participation of Muslim Americans in New York. The Council will consist of ten members, including representatives from community-based and faith-based organizations serving Muslim American communities, as well as members appointed by the state legislature and the governor. The Council will recommend strategies to better integrate Muslims in New York socially, educationally, culturally, and economically, facilitate relationship-building in the Muslim community, and identify ways to effectively disseminate information about state programs and services to Muslim Americans. The Council will present an annual report to the legislature with factual findings, progress analyses, and recommendations regarding the implementation of state programs and services as they affect Muslim Americans.
