This bill requires hospitals in New York that offer medical residency training in obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, women's health, and osteopathy to provide training that follows the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education or the American Osteopathic Association's special requirements for obstetrics-gynecology. The bill mandates that the training include experience with induced abortions and management of complications, except where the residency program has a religious, moral, or legal restriction that prohibits residents from performing abortions within the institution. In such cases, the program must ensure that residents without such objections receive the required education and experience at another institution. Hospitals that fail to comply with these provisions will be ineligible for reimbursement under the public health law.
