This Resolution urges the City and County of Honolulu to establish a new police station in Leeward Oahu, a growing area on the western side of the island that includes communities like Waipahu, Ewa, and Waianae. The resolution highlights that Leeward Oahu has a significant and increasing population, attracts many visitors due to its attractions, and experiences a variety of crimes, including assaults, burglaries, and thefts, as indicated by Honolulu Police Department (HPD) data. It also notes a rise in incidents involving homeless individuals in the region. Currently, the HPD, which is responsible for the entire island of Oahu, has its district stations located in other parts of the island, and the existing substations in Leeward Oahu are insufficient to meet the growing law enforcement needs of the area. Therefore, the establishment of a new police station is seen as necessary to improve police response times and provide better overall law enforcement services to the residents and visitors of Leeward Oahu.
