This bill establishes the offenses of reckless endangerment of an "emergency service person" in the first and second degrees. The first degree offense applies when a person's unlawful conduct during a fire or emergency evacuation results in the death of an emergency service person, or the person has a prior conviction for the first or second degree offense. The second degree offense applies when a person, without a required building permit, alters a building in a way that impedes emergency evacuation and injures an emergency service person. The bill defines "emergency service person" to include firefighters, police officers, peace officers, emergency services professionals, code enforcement officers, fire inspection personnel, and building inspectors.
