Bill Summary
Relative to the payment of wages to terminated employees. Labor and Workforce Development.
AI Summary
This bill amends state law to require employers to pay terminated employees on the next regularly scheduled pay period, which must be no more than two weeks from the date of termination. If the next regular pay period is greater than two weeks, the employer must issue payment prior to two weeks from the discharge date. If an employer does not comply with these provisions, they may face imprisonment of up to two and a half years and the employee may be entitled to treble damages. However, if an employer is under or considering bankruptcy protection, or anticipates going out of business prior to the next pay date, they must pay the employee on the date of discharge.
