This bill seeks to improve transparency in alleged police misconduct. It amends an existing law to allow the attorney general, district attorney, police chief, or local government officials to request an inquest to be held in cases where there is reasonable suspicion that a law enforcement officer's actions within the scope of their duties have resulted in serious bodily injury to another person. The inquest would be conducted by the attorney general or district attorney, and the person identified as the target of the investigation would have the right to be present, represented by counsel, and examine the inquest report, although this would not lead to the dismissal of any indictment or the suppression of evidence.
