This bill establishes a Prevailing Wage Commission to determine the effectiveness and accuracy of the Massachusetts Prevailing Wage Law, which sets wage rates for certain public works projects. The commission will examine whether the current law results in wage rates that accurately reflect actual market rates, and consider alternative methodologies. Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Labor Standards to provide information on its website about current prevailing wage rates, the methodology used to determine them, and any recent rate changes. The Department is also directed to hold at least one public hearing per year on prevailing wage law issues, with notice provided to municipalities, employers, and labor organizations.
