Bill Summary

The purpose of this bill is to ensure that nutritious food choices are available to members of the public and public employees when on public premises. This bill provides that any State, county or municipality, or board of education contract to provide food services on public property must require that the food provided under the contract complies with the nutrition standards developed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services for the Food Service Guidelines for Federal Facilities. For each item of food or beverage that does not provide visible nutrition information at the point of purchase, a vendor would be required to provide a sign that clearly discloses the number of calories contained in the food or beverage. As used in this bill, "food services" means all food and beverages sold in a vending machine, cafeteria, concession stand, or food cart, and foods or beverages purchased to provide to employees or members of the public at events and meetings.
