This bill amends the existing Minnesota law on declaring a peacetime emergency. It requires legislative approval for extending a peacetime emergency declaration beyond the initial 30-day period, rather than allowing the governor to extend it unilaterally. The bill also removes the provision that allowed the legislature to terminate a peacetime emergency extending beyond 30 days by majority vote of each house. Instead, it now requires the governor to call the legislature into session if an extension beyond 30 days is needed and the legislature is not already in session.
