This bill establishes the sustainable food systems working group within the Department of Agriculture. The working group, composed of various stakeholders, will develop an interagency food systems plan to create a more sustainable, resilient local food economy that enhances the environmental, economic, and social health of the community. The plan will address food as a human right, social equity, food system resilience, sustainability, the circular economy, workforce development, and governance. The working group is required to submit the plan and any recommendations, including proposed legislation, to the legislature by 2025, and the group will be dissolved on June 30, 2025. The bill also appropriates funds to establish the working group, develop the plan, and create an unspecified number of sustainability specialist positions within the Department of Agriculture.
