This bill amends several laws to restrict where sex offenders can reside. Specifically, it prohibits level three sex offenders (where the victim was under 18) from living within the area defined as school grounds. It also prohibits all level two and three sex offenders from living within a quarter mile of their victim's workplace, residence, or (if the victim is deceased) the victim's prior residence where their family continues to live. The bill requires the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to investigate and approve the location of a sex offender's residence and place of employment. It also directs local social services officials to consider similar residence restrictions when placing homeless level two and three sex offenders in shelter.
