This bill establishes the offenses of "reckless endangerment of an emergency service person in the first degree" and "reckless endangerment of an emergency service person in the second degree." The first degree offense applies when a person's reckless conduct during a fire or emergency evacuation results in the death of an emergency service person, or the person has a previous conviction for the first or second degree offense within the last 10 years. The second degree offense applies when a person, without the proper building permit, alters a building in a way that impedes emergency egress, and their conduct results in the injury of an emergency service person. Both offenses are felonies, with the first degree offense being a class D felony and the second degree offense being a class E felony.
