This bill establishes the School Carbon Monoxide Safety Trust Fund, which will provide grants to public school districts for the installation of carbon monoxide detection systems in school buildings that contain fossil-fuel burning equipment or have enclosed parking. The bill requires school buildings that meet these criteria to install carbon monoxide alarms and directs the state board of building regulations and standards to adopt the 2015 International Building Code requirement for carbon monoxide detection systems in new or substantially rehabilitated school buildings. The bill also provides $7.5 million in funding for the Trust Fund and requires the development of best practices for the placement and installation of carbon monoxide detection systems in public school buildings.
