This bill establishes the New York State Muslim American Advisory Council, a 10-member council that will advise the legislature on ways to advance the role and civic participation of Muslim Americans in New York. The council will recommend strategies to better integrate Muslims socially, educationally, culturally, and economically, and will facilitate relationship-building in the Muslim community, especially regarding international commerce and state programs/services. The council members will be appointed by the legislature and the governor, and will serve 4-year terms without compensation. The council will meet regularly and present an annual report to the legislature with factual findings, progress analyses, and recommendations.
