This bill directs the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to conduct a study on the feasibility, marketability, and costs of implementing large-scale geothermal heat pump systems in the state. The study will assess the challenges, consult with the U.S. Department of Energy and other states, and evaluate the energy efficiency, costs, and potential financial incentives or public-private partnerships to encourage the development and deployment of geothermal energy and large-scale geothermal heat pump systems. The BPU will then submit a written report to the Governor and the Legislature with its findings and recommendations, including the feasibility, need for, and design of a pilot program for the installation of large-scale geothermal heat pump systems.
