This bill directs the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to conduct a study on the feasibility, marketability, and costs of implementing large-scale geothermal heat pump systems in the state. The study will assess the challenges and obstacles for installation, consult with the U.S. Department of Energy and other states, and evaluate the energy efficiency, costs, and potential incentives or public-private partnerships to encourage the development and deployment of geothermal energy and large-scale geothermal heat pump systems. The BPU will then prepare and submit a written report within two years summarizing the findings and providing recommendations for the feasibility, need, and design of a pilot program, as well as any legislative, executive, or other actions.
