Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to mandatory health insurance coverage for acupuncture services
AI Summary
This bill amends the New York Insurance Law to require health insurance policies issued within the Affordable Care Act's Health Benefit Exchange to provide coverage for acupuncture treatment provided by licensed or certified acupuncturists. The coverage may be subject to reasonable deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, fee or benefit limits, and utilization review, but these must not be greater than those for other essential health benefits or discriminate against acupuncture treatment. The bill also explicitly allows for the provision or coverage of acupuncture services by licensed or certified acupuncturists in hospital settings.
