This bill allows a $500 gross income tax credit for volunteer firefighters who have been actively volunteering for at least three years. To be eligible, a taxpayer must be an active member of a volunteer fire company or an active volunteer member of a part-paid fire department incorporated in New Jersey and serving one or more counties or municipalities in the state. The credit has priority over other tax credits and cannot reduce the taxpayer's liability to less than zero. The director is authorized to promulgate rules and procedures to implement the credit.
