This bill adds doula services performed by a certified doula to the list of services that may be provided as medical assistance under the TennCare program. It also directs the Tennessee Department of Health to establish a process for verifying the certification of doulas who have completed a training program that meets certain requirements, such as demonstrating an understanding of anatomy and physiology related to pregnancy, the ability to provide emotional and physical support, and knowledge of community resources. The bill takes effect upon becoming law for the purpose of promulgating rules, and on July 1, 2024 for all other purposes.
